The Geraldton Universities Centre (GUC) proudly celebrated the achievements of 41 graduating students at a formal ceremony held at Queens Park Theatre last night. Surrounded by family, friends, and the wider GUC community, the graduates marked the culmination of their hard work and dedication.
This year’s graduates completed studies in a diverse range of disciplines, including Accounting, Arts, Education, Medical Sonography, Nursing, Paramedic Science, Psychological Science, and Social Work. These programs were delivered in partnership with CQUniversity, UniSQ and Curtin University.
The keynote address was delivered by CQUniversity Vice Chancellor, Professor Nick Klomp, who inspired the graduates as they embark on the next stage of their careers. Professor Klomp also spoke of the partnership between CQUniversity and the GUC.
“The partnership between our two organisations has opened doors to high-quality education right here in this region and has helped produce a generation of skilled professionals who will now give back to this very community,” Professor Klomp said.
A highlight of the evening was the recognition of outstanding academic excellence, with UniSQ Bachelor of Nursing graduate Nadine Barmentlo receiving the prestigious Faculty Medal for the Faculty of Health, Engineering, and Sciences. This esteemed award is given to graduates who have demonstrated consistently high academic performance and exceptional critical thinking skills. Notably, this marks the fifth time a GUC student has earned either a faculty or school medal—an incredible testament to GUC’s commitment to academic excellence!
Four Aboriginal students—Shanae McGuire and Shanae Clohessy (Primary Education), Mariah Carey (Psychology), and Nicole Wyatt (Nursing)—were honoured with special sashes in recognition of their achievements.
With this latest graduation, GUC’s alumni network now proudly stands at 605 graduates, each making meaningful contributions to our local community. Congratulations to the Class of 2025!
