Local Nursing Degree Sees Record Growth as Graduates Step Straight into Jobs

The Bachelor of Nursing has emerged as Uni Hub Spencer Gulf's most sought-after degree program, experiencing remarkable growth with enrolments averaging around 70 per cent annually since 2019.

The program's success is reflected not only in its popularity but also in its graduate outcomes – every nursing graduate from Uni Hub has secured employment in the region immediately upon completion, with many landing positions before finishing their final semester.

This impressive employment rate highlights the critical shortage of skilled nurses across the Spencer Gulf region and the value employers place on locally-trained healthcare professionals.

"Nurses trained locally are critical to meeting the healthcare needs of our communities," said Uni Hub Spencer Gulf CEO Anita Kuss. "They bring a deep understanding of the region, its people and its unique challenges and they're more likely to stay and build their careers here."

The degree program, delivered through CQUniversity, is available at Uni Hub's university centres and provides flexible entry pathways to accommodate various backgrounds – from school leavers to enrolled nurses and mature-age students returning to education.

According to Ms Kuss, the program addresses one of the region's most pressing challenges. "This program is helping to address one of the region's biggest challenges - the shortage of skilled health workers," she explained.

"Every nursing graduate who stays and works locally not only strengthens our health system and reduces the pressure on hospitals and aged care services, they also help build strong regional communities."

With 2026 enrolments now open, Ms Kuss is encouraging prospective students to begin the application process early. "Some of the mandatory requirements for nursing can take some time to complete, so the earlier you start the enrolment process, the better," she advised.

While applications for Semester 1 don't officially close until 23 February 2026, the Uni Hub team recommends connecting with them well in advance to navigate the requirements and prepare for course expectations.

"Studying nursing through the Uni Hub is more than just a degree. It's a chance to make a real difference in your own community. Our students are proving that you can pursue a professional career right here in the region without leaving home," Ms Kuss concluded.
