Richard Horgan Appointed Uni Hub Spencer Gulf CEO

Uni Hub Spencer Gulf has appointed Richard Horgan as its new Chief Executive Officer, with Mr Horgan set to commence in the role on Monday 18 May.

Mr Horgan replaces Anita Kuss, who announced earlier this year she was stepping down from the position after steering the organisation since its inception.

Uni Hub Board Chair Kylie Petherick said Mr Horgan was selected following a comprehensive recruitment process that attracted a strong field of applicants.

"Richard stood out for his deep understanding of regional communities, his extensive experience across education and workforce development, and his clear commitment to improving opportunities for people living in regional South Australia," Ms Petherick said.

"On behalf of the Board, I'm delighted to welcome Richard to the Uni Hub. His leadership will be instrumental as we continue to expand access to higher education and support more regional students to succeed."

Mr Horgan brings more than 30 years' experience across education, training and workforce policy. Raised on a farm near Tumby Bay on the Eyre Peninsula, he began his career as a secondary Mathematics and Science teacher before progressing into senior leadership roles across regional schools.

He has held key positions including Eyre Peninsula Regional Manager for TAFE SA, lead educator with Bendigo Kangan Institute, and Director, Apprenticeships Victoria with the Victorian Government. Most recently, he served as Economic Development Manager with Regional Development Australia Eyre Peninsula, focusing on regional growth, employment and investment.

Ms Petherick said Mr Horgan's strong regional background and industry connections would be an asset to the organisation.

"Richard's career reflects a genuine passion for supporting regional communities, building workforce capability and creating pathways into education and employment," she said.

Ms Petherick also acknowledged the contribution of outgoing CEO Anita Kuss.

"We thank Anita for her leadership and dedication to the Uni Hub. Her work has helped establish a strong and trusted organisation that is making a real difference in regional communities," she said.

Mr Horgan said he was thrilled to be offered the opportunity to continue the outstanding work of the Uni Hub across the region.

"I am deeply committed to ensuring that people living in our region have access to the same educational opportunities as those in Adelaide, without needing to leave the home," he said.

"I congratulate Anita and the staff on the amazing work they have done in leading and growing the Uni Hub within the Spencer Gulf and surrounding regions. I look forward to working with industry and communities to address workforce and skills shortages through growing our own talent locally."
