Senator Anthony Chisholm, Assistant Minister for Education and Regional Development, visited the Barossa Regional University Campus on June 12, 2024. The visit was an important event that showcased the ongoing efforts to address regional challenges and highlighted the significant progress made by the Barossa Regional University Campus.
The visit began with a tour of the Barossa Regional University Campus. Senator Chisholm was warmly greeted by Rolf Binder, Chair of the RDA Barossa Gawler Light Adelaide Plains (RDABGLAP), Grace Trimboli, Economic Development Manager, and Hayley Laney, Education Manager. The tour provided an in-depth look at the campus facilities and included interactions with students who shared their experiences and the benefits of studying at the regional university hub.
Following the campus tour, Hayley Laney delivered an update on BRUC, offering an overview of the campus's impact on students, the community, and local workforce pathways. The presentation highlighted the increased registrations and graduations compared to last year, demonstrating the campus's role in supporting regional education and development.
Later, a regional roundtable discussion took place, bringing together local business leaders, community leaders, and education representatives. The roundtable was facilitated by Leonie Boothby, CEO of RDABGLAP, and focused on the current regional challenges and opportunities. Topics discussed included workforce access, housing issues, public transport, and the impact of regional education.
Community leaders provided valuable insights into the local workforce and housing issues, emphasising the urgent needs and opportunities in the region. Additionally, a local student shared their experience as a migrant seeking qualifications and recognition of prior learning, shedding light on the unique challenges faced by individuals in similar situations.
Senator Chisholm's visit underscored the commitment of RDABGLAP to connect the region with all levels of government and ensure every voice is heard. The discussions and insights gathered during the visit will contribute to the ongoing efforts to address regional challenges and promote sustainable economic growth and community development.
