The Next Step – Consultation Paper on Bringing Tertiary Education to Outer Suburbs

On 3rd September 2023, the Hon Jason Clare MP (Minister of Education) announced the release of a Consultation Paper regarding the implementation and framework of the new Suburban University Study Hubs Program. This program will be establishing up to 14 Suburban Hubs in addition to the current 34 Regional University Study Hubs. Suburban Study Hubs will be situated in outer metropolitan areas that contain low levels of university completion and limited access to a physical university environment.

To encourage and support the delivery of the Suburban University Study Hubs, a consultation paper has been released that seeks feedback and ideas from communities, students, state and territory government bodies, and potential hub hosts - including educational institutions, local governments, and other stakeholders – about the design of the hubs.

The Hubs will provide supportive spaces for students, including those from low socio-economic backgrounds, First Nations students and people with disability.

The Suburban University Study Hubs applications are expected to open early next year and applications for the additional Regional University Study Hubs are expected to open later this year.

Interested stakeholders, including Regional Hubs, are invited to make a submission to the Consultation Paper by 2 October 2023. For more information and to make a submission, please click here.
