The Pilbara Kimberley University Centres Broome Study Hub officially celebrated the re-opening of their new and larger space on Monday 10th November 2025. Despite officially opening the Broome Hub in 2023, this recent milestone signified the impressive growth in higher education students in Broome over the past two years, and the subsequent need for a larger and more equipped study space.
The event was attended by several dignitaries including Senator Glenn Sterle, Chair of Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Legislation Committee, Australian Labour Party, who represented the Federal Minister for Education, the Hon Jason Clare MP. Also in attendance were the Hon Melissa Price MP, Federal Member for Durack and Shadow Minister for Defence Industry and Defence Personnel, as well as PKUC CEO Susan Grylls. The opening event was further attended by Amma Buckley from the Regional University Study Hubs Network in Perth.
Since opening in July 2023, the Broome Hub has registered a total of 180 students, all of whom come from diverse backgrounds, ages, and experiences, representing a wide range of genders and fields of study across the West Kimberley. Approximately 45 students are currently using the hub regularly, and as word continues to spread about their professional services, supportive environment, and excellent facilities, more students are registering and making the most of this wonderful space.
The new hub is nearly three times the size of their previous location and features:
12 dedicated study desks, with widescreen and/or two monitors per desk
A larger conference room that comfortably seats 8 people
A dining area and kitchenette
A separate staff room
A printing room
On-site toilets
The expansion of the Broome Study Hub represents PKUC's ongoing commitment to making higher education accessible across regional Western Australia. With its enhanced facilities and welcoming environment, the hub is well-positioned to support even more students in achieving their academic goals and contributing to the growth and development of the West Kimberley community.
