Students across the Spencer Gulf region are getting hands-on support to navigate their future study and career options, thanks to extensive outreach efforts by Uni Hub Spencer Gulf.
Uni Hub Spencer Gulf has been actively visiting secondary schools throughout the region, delivering targeted presentations and offering one-on-one guidance to help students make informed decisions about their educational journey.
Tailored Support for Different Year Levels
The comprehensive program addresses the specific needs of students at different stages of their secondary education. Year 10 and 11 students receive guidance on how their current subject selections can impact their future study opportunities, while Year 12 students explore university pathways, training programs, and local career prospects.
To complement the school visits, student groups have also been invited to visit Uni Hub's centres, providing them with a firsthand experience of the study environments and support services available in their local area.
Breaking Down Barriers to Higher Education
"These school visits are about showing students that the choices they make now can open doors to future careers," explains Uni Hub Spencer Gulf School Engagement Officer Sam Amato. "We want them to see that they don't have to leave their community to access higher education – there are real options available here."
The initiative addresses a common misconception among regional students about the availability of higher education opportunities close to home. Ms Amato notes that many students are genuinely surprised to discover the breadth of degree programs accessible through Uni Hub's university partnerships.
Diverse Study Options Available Locally
The range of subjects available through local study is more extensive than many students realize. "Whether it's nursing, teaching, social work, business or engineering, students can start or complete their degree right here with local support," Ms Amato said. "That means they can stay connected to their families, their schools and their communities while building their future."
This local accessibility removes significant barriers that might otherwise prevent regional students from pursuing higher education, including the costs and challenges associated with relocating to major cities.
Supporting the Transition Beyond School
For Year 12 students facing the immediate transition from school to further study, the program provides crucial practical support. "Finishing school is exciting but can also feel overwhelming," Ms Amato acknowledged. "We're here to guide students through applications and show them that they'll be supported every step of the way."
The initiative represents Uni Hub Spencer Gulf's commitment to ensuring regional students have equal access to higher education opportunities without having to sacrifice their community connections or face the additional challenges of studying far from home.
